Lent begins this Wednesday, March 5th. Lent is a season of preparation. It is a time to reflect on the life and death of Jesus and be reminded of what it means to follow him. It is a time of laying down what stands in the way of that call and embracing the new life that is found in the process. Lent recognizes that the only way to truly enter into the celebration of resurrection is to first acknowledge and grieve what is broken and lost.
There is a lot to grieve right now. There is so much that is broken and lost. In the midst of it all, maybe we could journey through the season of Lent together. I have two resources that I'd love to share with you.
First is a Lent devotional that I created called Lent Reflections. It provides weekly reflections for the 7 weeks of Lent based on Jesus' last words to his disciples in John 13-17. Each week includes a passage of scripture, a short reflection, and a guided prayer practice. Lent Reflections is available as digital download on Etsy, which you can purchase here. You can also check out an excerpt from Lent Reflections that was featured on the Red Letter Christians blog.
Secondly, Global Immersion will be providing weekly reflections during Lent that will be available on their blog and social media accounts. They are pulling together a group of peacemakers to engage with scripture and share a reflection based on various Lent themes. I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to partner with this amazing group and contribute a reflection on the theme of waiting. Make sure to follow along weekly starting March 5th.
Let me know if you’re planning to journey through Lent with either of these resources, and I’d love to hear your reflections along the way. As we grieve what is lost and broken, may we find hope and the courage to love to the end.
